40th Annual DMF Ball - A Focus on Cancer Awareness

July 22, 2011

The 40th Annual Don Monti Memorial Research Foundation (DMF) Ball of the Year at the Crest Hollow Country Club on Saturday, November 5, is a fitting finale to a month full of events focused on raising awareness and funds for cancer research.

Underwritten by the Monti family, which has owned the newly renovated venue for nearly 4 decades, the Ball raises funds for DMF, a non-profit founded by the late Tita and Joseph Monti in honor of their 17-year-old son who died of acute myeloblastic leukemia. Since 1972, DMF has raised more than $36 million in support of cancer research conducted at Cold Spring Harbor Labs, fellowship programs and cancer-patient care. The foundation is now under the direction of President Caroline Monti Saladino and her brother Richard Monti, Crest Hollow Chief Executive Officer.

"My sister Caroline and I are incredibly proud to continue our parents' legacy," Richard Monti comments. "We remain dedicated to doing all we can to support the scientists in their search for a cure for this deadly disease." During October, Crest Hollow was the venue of choice for many organizations that share this dedication.

With its gardens, fountains and stunning new South Beach-inspired deck and pool bathed in pink LED lights in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Crest Hollow began the month hosting the "Pink Promises" Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) Gala on October 1. Founded by Evelyn Lauder and attended by more than 1,000 guests, the BCRF gala was the first of several such cancer fundraisers during October.

"My parents would be proud to know that the Crest Hollow plays such a vital role in helping so many organizations raise funds for cancer awareness and research," Richard Monti adds.
